The Execution Premium is an integrated management model, introduced in 2010 to combine strategy formulation and operational implementation. Kaplan and Norton proposed an interactive system that could be adapted to the strategies of different companies and that allowed coordination, integration and organizational alignment. There are several known cases of companies having successfully implemented Execution Premium. Corticeira Amorim was one of these cases and, since this TFM is the result of an internship in international controlling department in the cork unit of the group, the main objective was to analyze the utility of the model for AI. This dissertation encompasses a theoretical framework that explored the evolution of the concept of management control with special emphasis on the publications of Kaplan and Norton, including the evolution of the tools and models published by the authors over time, in order to create a solid basis to develop a descriptive and explanatory case study, which presented the evolution of management control in the group, analyzed the level of adequacy, usefulness and integration of the current system and described the main problems, improvement opportunities and future expectations. The analysis shows that the model has internal and corporate utility, because it not only allows communicating the strategy but it also enhances both the integration and alignment between strategy and operations. However, some critical issues were identified during this process, especially with regard to the global integration of the model, which is still far from expected. There is also the possibility of budget abandonment, which has been losing importance over the last few years.
