Occupational health psychology has emphasized the importance of identifying psychosocial and organizational factors that promote workers' well-being. However, there is little literature on the political context, especially in Portugal. This study aimed to describe the demands, resources, and occupational health indicators of Portuguese politicians and identify predictors of burnout and work engagement. 71 politicians participated by responding to an online protocol consisting of: a sociodemographic and professional questionnaire; a questionnaire on professional demands; a questionnaire on professional resources; the Short Index of Job Satisfaction; the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9); the Work-life Balance Scale (WLBS); the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT); and the Hamburg Self-care Questionnaire (AUT). Concerns about public exposure, responsibility, and work overload were positively associated with burnout, while routine variability and job satisfaction were positively correlated with work engagement. The results highlight the importance of policies to reduce psychosocial risks and promote a healthy work environment for politicians.
