Abstract

This present report appears in the third syllabus of Nursing Master of Specialization inMedical - Surgical, promoted by the Catholic Portuguese University.The goals of thisreport are documenting all learning in the training field, its reasoning through literatureresearch and also serving as an evaluation tool at the final stage of the course.It describes a learning path as a student of the specialty, not only by developingcompetencies defined for the training field, but also by sharing information from theexperience, thus contributing to the professional teams in which we have participated,including the job training.We present activities focused on the critical patient and the more complex situations,emphasizing the importance of evidence-based practice in order to promote nursing carewith quality as well the difficulties we have been through, specifically about NursingInformation Systems.This report relates the literature research which supports the daily practice in thetraining context, the personal reflection and criticism and above all the direct nursingcare to the medical surgical patients. In the general context of the nursing specialization,it particularly translates the skills acquired in different levels of action, considering thedifferent areas recommended by the Nurses Association: Scope of general care services,Scope of specialized care services; Scope of managing care services, Scope of legal andethical responsibility and finally the Scope of quality management.We conclude that the stage have provided the knowledge and the skills to enabledifferentiated and global caring to each patient in Nursing Medical - Surgical specialization. The pages of this report describe all the activities we realized in order tovalidate the predefined goals in different areas as: Preoperative Nursing, EmergencyService and Intensive Care Unit, enhancing the exchange of experience and the directapproach to the critical patient.
