The present Internship Report is part of the curricular unit “Final Internship and Report”, integrated in the 13th Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for Critically Ill Person, from the Institute of Health Sciences at Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Lisbon. It is structured in two main chapters, which correspond to two distinct components. The first chapter is composed by a scoping review and the second by the description and critical analysis of the activities and competences developed. Its purpose is the description and critical analysis of the entire development path of knowledge and specialized skills in the provision of care to the person in critical situation and their family, consolidated during the internship contexts, which include those of a technical, scientific, ethical nature and relational. Both internships lasted 7 weeks, having been carried out in an Intervention Neuroradiology Unit, from 7 September to 25 October 2010, and in a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit for Neurocritics and Trauma, between the period of 26 October on December 20, 2020, with an intimate articulation of the knowledge acquired during the academic path with that acquired during my professional and personal experience. In the sense of improving care and evidence-based practice, a literature review was developed, in the form of a Scoping Review, with the theme “Lived experiences of critically ill patients’ family”. It is my belief that critical illness and consequent hospitalization is often an unexpected and unforeseen situation, causing changes in the life of the person and his family, and can be considered as a health-disease transition. The person is inherently inserted in a family, which is the first social unit of the human being, reason why nurses cannot disconnect themselves from its provision of care. An approach to the family's experiences can bring benefits in caring for the family, allowing nurses to have a holistic understanding of how the family experiences the critical illness of their loved one.
