Abstract

It is from childhood that the individual, in contact with various life contexts and agents, builds representations about the future at a personal, academic, and professional level. In a society developing for inclusion, studies are needed to look at the relationship between career exploration and academic success from childhood and to explore variations between individuals who do or do not hold measures to support learning. This study seeks to analyse whether career exploration and academic success are associated with each other and suffer effects of whether they take advantage of measures to support learning. Participants were 203 early adolescents of the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, who responded to measures of career exploration and engagement in school. Under consent, the school classifications of the 1st academic period of each participant were also collected. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed. Positive and statistically significant correlations were found between career exploration and engagement in school, as well as statistically significant differences in academic performance between students who benefit from learning support measures and students who do not. Further research regarding the use of learning support measures and the relationship between career and academic processes is needed. It is understood the importance of the role of the educational psychologist in promoting the holistic development of students and inclusive education, with the need for teacher training on measures to support learning.
