Since self-injurious behavior has been the subject of interest by researchers in recent years, mainly in adolescents, the aim of the present study is to explore the effect of contagion in the practice of non-suicidal self-injury behaviors in adolescents. Throughout this work, a qualitative approach based on Edmund Husserl's phenomenological model was used. The study consists of six participants who practice or have practiced non-suicidal self-harm, using a sociodemographic questionnaire and a phenomenological interview as instruments. Regarding data analysis, this was carried out based on the phenomenological-empirical method of Giorgi e Sousa. Through this method, it was possible to conclude that non-suicidal self-harm in adolescence is related to several factors, namely avoiding negative feelings, resulting from possible family, interpersonal and social conflicts, loneliness, sexual abuse, mental disorders, as well as a high influence on the part of peers, social networks and other media. According to the information obtained, it is clear that the adolescent population is more vulnerable at this stage of life, since they do not have a good emotional self-regulation to face the adversities and problems that may arise. In fact, it is important to establish measures in the school environment and implement strategies with regard to emotional regulation so that there is greater control in the reduction of these self-injurious behaviors in this population.
