Purpose – This thesis aims to examine the change management practice at Porsche Consulting and suggest improvement measures for increasing the quality of transformation projects. Methodology – The author presents an explorative and mostly qualitative empirical study. The underpinning theory for the thesis is provided through a comprehensive literature review of relevant topics. Furthermore, the author collected data through a documentary analysis of project proposals and semi-structured interviews with nine management consultants at Porsche Consulting to investigate the current practice concerning change management. Findings – The author finds that change management is implicitly embodied in the current project approach of the firm. However, the research also reveals the opportunity to further formalize the approach to change management in order to facilitate stronger integration of change management in projects. Such formalization is in particular suggested for the tools and methodologies to be used for managing change. Practical Implications – Building on the findings the author developed a standardized change management toolset which is intended to provide consulting teams with standardized tools and methods for addressing the people side in their projects. Originality / Value – The qualitative findings of the thesis add to the current literature as they provide empirical insights into the managerial practice of change management in consulting firms.
