Fantasia para Dois Coronéis e Uma piscina de Mário de Carvalho e a representação irónica do Portugal contemporâneo

Abstract

This paper intends to present the novel Fantasia para dois coronéis e uma piscina by Mário de Carvalho as a literary piece of work whose theme is the is-sue of the Portuguese way of being in the contemporary world. The narrative is an ironic representation of current Portugal and its identity. The primary purpose was to show how Mário de Carvalho recovers a centuries-old cultural and literary heritage to associate it, in an ironical and sa-tirical way, using parody style, to the problems of contemporary society and man. The book by Mário de Carvalho is also a remarkable exercise in verbal and stylistic mastery.
