Juvenile delinquency is a subject that has originated several researches, mainly because of its consequences on young people’s future choices and lives. The study of risk factors and protective factors if of the utmost importance, not only because it contributes to a better understanding of the juvenile delinquency phenomenon, but also because it fosters the creation of intervention programmes. The present study’s objective is to analyze the relationship of school engagement in the adoption of delinquent behaviours by young people. The data collection was gathered among 9th year and 12th year students from Porto and Setúbal. The instruments used were the MERLINO Survey (Matos, Veríssimo, Soares, Carvalho, Cunha & Moreno, 2013) and the Instrument of Students’ School Engagement (Moreira, Machado Vaz, Dias & Petracchi, 2009). The main results reveal that students with a moderate emotional engagement have a bigger probability of adopting delinquent behaviours than students with a high emotional engagement. They also demonstrate that students with a moderate cognitive engagement have a bigger probability of adopting delinquent behaviours than students with a high cognitive engagement. At the end of the present study, its implications and limitations will be discussed and suggestions will be made for future researches.
