From March 2019 to early 2022, the world was gripped by the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, which had devastating health and socioeconomic consequences. Businesses felt the need to modify their procedures as well as the strategies defined until then in order to mitigate the spread of the virus. This study aims to analyze the impact of the pandemic, during the pre and post pandemic period, on business strategy, focusing on the tools most used by companies in the Portuguese context. Based on this general objective, we intend to determine: (i) the possible impact of the pandemic on business management; (ii) the ability of companies to adapt. The methodology adopted is quantitative in nature and the non-probabilistic convenience sample is composed of 53 national companies that filled out an online questionnaire on the Google forms platform. The results show that the most sought-after tools are SWOT analysis, brainstorming, benchmarking and strategic meetings as the most used in Portuguese companies in the sample. This study has relevant implications for practice, in the sense that it is possible to verify the emergence of tools such as scenario analysis, greater use of home office and even more strategic meetings, which until then were not so often mentioned in the literature, and which became important during the pandemic period, thus providing companies with privileged information at the time of decision making.
