With Philosophy of Proximity, Esquirol presents us with a human being exposed to the weather, which forces him to resist disintegrating forces: ideological threats, the deterioration of language and indifference and contempt for life. It highlights the context of nihilism, a philosophical concept based on the subjectivity of being, without any metaphysical foundation. However, it seeks to recover the idea of the human being as someone capable of resisting the forces that contribute to its disintegration. In his attempt to understand the human condition, Esquirol proposes proximity as the guiding thread. He brings in the theme of everyday life, which has this proximity as its determining aspect, and tries to develop a philosophical anthropology. The human condition is the periphery of an impossible paradise, where the resources come from the periphery’s own condition of vulnerability. With the syntagm of the plissage of feeling, he takes us back to the essence of human life, trying to understand the condition of man with the infinite wound that constitutes it, presenting care as a fundamental condition and possibility of existence. The metaphysics of coming together is thought to be a possible aid in understanding the background to human existence; the junction is the place where points come together without confusing them: body and soul, heaven and earth, time and eternity, finite a nd infinite. In this way, existing always implies a limit situation, and this limit can indicate transcendence. In Christianity we can find appropriate ways of overcoming vulnerability and a horizon of personal fulfillment, since man becomes aware that life is a mystery that implies a transcendent hope, which he tries to pass on to his neighbor.
