The present research aimed to understand the relevance of the vocational training in a company of food distribution, as well as analyze how it was implemented, specifically in the course of shop operator, taking into account the views of various actors: managers, trainers and trainees. According to Velada (2007), it is important that the companies engage in the vocational training of their employees, because this way their organizational performance also improves. Thereof, we used the qualitative methodology, including techniques of interview, observation and document analysis. For the interviews was elaborated a semi-structured interview guide and, in the observation, we used participant observation and non-participant observation, which resulted in field notes. In order to get the perspective of different actors involved in the planning and operation of the training cycle, at different times, I interviewed the director of human resources, the technical training, an eventual trainer, a permanent trainer and also three trainees, for whom I chose the group interview. Theoretical formations were observed in the classroom, and practical ones on the job. It was possible to observe that the process of training the employees of the organization is strategically privileged by the company. However, whilst some stages of the training cycle are fulfilled, they are not operationalized as appropriate. By the speeches of the trainees who agreed to participate in the research, it was realized that they could have had a more active role in the proposal of improvements to the planning and operation of the company training.
