Abstract
This research aims to identify and analyze the risk factors and the protective factors in adolescent consumers of licit and/or illicit drugs, particularly through the study of family functioning, the attachment, the self concept and self perception of life satisfaction. For this purpose we developed not only a theoretical but also an empirical approach. To achieve them, we chose to use, as measuring instruments, the substance use questionnaire (Negreiros,2001b), the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale questionnaire (PHCSCS-2, adapted by Veiga, 2006), the Pediatric Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction questionnaire (QPBS, adapted by Oliveira Dias Gonçalves & Machado, 2008), the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation questionnaire (FACES III, adapted by Corral, Golden, Rome Torres, Barros, Pacheco, Straw & Almeida, 1999) and the Inventory of Attachment in Childhood and Adolescents (IVIA,
Carvalho, 2007). We assessed 40 adolescents at risk, all of them attending a community project in the Porto area. The results suggest that there is a greater anxious/ambivalent attachment, an unbalanced family structure and a negative perception of life satisfaction in the population type in study. Also,
according to the results obtained in this study, there is a normal perception of the self-concept.
