Abstract

This thesis aims to describe the work done in a consulting firm, Amplitude Consulting, S.A. (from now on designated as Amplitude Consulting), under the curriculum internship in the 1st semester of 2nd year of Master in Environmental Engineering.
Amplitude Consulting is an anonymous company, whose main activity is Consulting in Environment and Safety, Hygiene and Health, Energy Efficiency and Indoor Air Quality. The company works in partnership with main players in the environmental market, renewable energy and energy efficiency, contributing to the credibility and sustenance of proposals with value to key players at economic and public administrative central and local levels.
Currently, for clients, consumers and investors, the environmental responsibility related to products and services is a basic requirement to remain in the market. It is expected that organizations fulfil environmental standards and demonstrate their commitment to the environment in all activities of daily life. These requirements can also be an opportunity for organizations to eliminate waste, unnecessary costs and risks, while reinforcing its values on the protection of the environment. The respect for environment improves the image of the organizations, but above all, a proper management of environmental issues brings economic gains, contributing positively to their competitiveness.
During the internship period, were made consulting services for 12 different organisations which activity sectors are set in the food, chemical, textile, metal and transforming industry, by using varied instruments of environmental management. The Industrial Licensing, Environmental Licensing, Licensing Operations Waste Management and Environmental Management System were some of those tools. Furthermore, it is important to underline the development of competences in the conception and exposure of proposals and research and study of national and community legislation applicable.
There were difficulties in the elaboration of the environmental management projects, in accordance with environmental legislation applicable to the organization, since the data provided by organizations are not properly organized. In addition to this gap in the management system of organizations, the fact that some organizations are not aware of the importance of environmental responsibility hinders the implementation of environmental management tools, either by economic factors, or factors of logistics.
It is recommended that the coordinating entities of the various management tools should expose success cases, such as economic gains and increased competitiveness of organizations, towards demonstrating that environmental responsibility brings many benefits to the organizations.
