Abstract

In recent times there has been a huge adjustment in the relationship between school, family and its specific context. In fact, there is a closer affiliation between the two. However, this relationship is not always peaceful. The number of conflicts in a school context is a problem echoed by the media in general and also by studies sourcedinternationally. In this scenario, the problem of conflicts in school context assumes relevance, as well as, the need to better understand the root of the problem. The positive management of conflict-generating situations is complex, demanding and it requires alternative measures to the ones commonly applied to solve them. This paper seeks to identify the main situations capable of generating conflicts and to investigate solutions to manage them in an articulated and committed way. Therefore, this research project has as main purpose to relate the inevitability of conflict within the school contexts and the need of an alternative way to create educational environments suitable to our current society. In this matrix the conflict,• has to be understood as inevitable, because it is inherent in human nature, and consequently to the school context;• is an enhancer of teaching and learning processes that are active and capable of generating human development environments, as a perspective of educational mediation. Methodologically, the study now presented is based on research and document analysis, an interview with the school director and questionnaires to the members ofthe Educational Community, namely students, teachers and other school personnel and, it is part of the paradigm of a naturalistic investigation. The results obtained are analysed, treated and discussed in order to understand the main scenarios that could lead to conflict situations in the school context, and also to perceive and prospect the best strategies for a positive conflict management and school context.
