Abstract

Risk Management, as a process and set of coordinated activities for targeting and controlling risks in the preservation of heritage assets, with a view to their integrity and authenticity and ensuring their value, is a necessary to preventive conservation, and, above all, a crucial tool in the field of Conservation and Restoration. In order to ensure the preservation of Almada Negreiros' mural paintings at the Gare Marítima da Rocha do Conde d'Óbidos, a unique heritage site with historical significance for the city of Lisbon and the country as a whole, a risk assessment for mural art was conducted using the ABC method, despite the lack of specific methodologies designed to address the risks that threaten and degrade integrated heritage. Its development required an in-depth literature review, revealing the interdisciplinarity of the process, weighing in of values and complementary studies, reaching a large amount of information, and seeing each mural as unique objects and the Gare da Rocha building, in particular, as their support. The assessment, resulting from a theoretical reflection and analysis of all these elements, followed by the proposal of control measures for the risks identified, is satisfactory. However, it suggests a review of aspects that could contribute to the definition of new concepts and parameters, and to the construction of a management methodology as a risk prevention mechanism, with a focus on integrated heritage assets.
