The present study aims at reflecting on the author´s professional path, a critical analysis focusing on the evolution of the management models in a Portuguese public school over the past two decades, in order to describe the implications these different governance models have brought to the school organizational dynamics. Thus, it was made a reconstruction and analysis of the formation process of the grouping of schools under study, more specifically, the dynamics that were established in the school grouping, mobilizing to this end some meaningful episodes of school life. As far as methodology is concerned, we have conducted a synchronic case study using several research techniques. We report the most significant results of this study and theoretically debate the meanings conferred by the school agents to the distinct stages of the process.
