Since XX century, the school management of the primary teaching turns to be part of a common regime with middle schools and junior high schools, which central administration already recognised some autonomy in particular aspects. The implementation of school groups has a result of the numerous educational reforms are now linking every school throughout the organization to the same objectives which has revealed to be demanding. Within a school group, each school has a coordinator, nominated by the director of the organized unity to coordinate the educative activities in articulation with him and also to embrace his decisions and exercise every task that could be eventually delegated, convey any relevant information concerns to non-educators and students and to promote, to motivate the parents participation, the responsible educators and local authority to the school activities. With this study we try to comprehend the action of the school coordinator, identifying the reason that made them accept this occupation, describing their tasks and recognising any management conflict that arises. We have chosen qualitative methodology, supported by a semi structured interviews to several directors and coordinators from different School Groups in Porto District. The data available points to a performance of two main function of the coordinator: not only as a communication vehicle between the school and the Direction School Group, parents and local services but also as a specific manager of the school that goes beyond the limits of each class, teacher or classroom.
