It is essential that Portuguese nurses have a positive perception of Career Success(SC), which implies a greater focus on their Academic Qualifications(HA). Therefore, this study is a contribution that allowed understanding that HA are a factor of perception in the SC in nursing. Thus, we aimed to determine whether the level of HA, the work sector, and the length of time working influence SC. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study with a sample of 380 nurses working in Portugal and abroad. Data collection, carried out through an online questionnaire, included the application of the Career Success Perception Scale (EPSC) by Venelli-Costa (2014), applied to Portuguese nurses working in Portugal and abroad, depending on their HA. With regard to the level of perception of SC, most nurses had a moderate perception (54.5%), followed by those with a high perception (43.1%), and only 2.4% had a low perception of SC. Nurses with a PhD, working in the private sector and with less than 1 year and more than 20 years of professional practice show a higher perception of SC. In conclusion, the results explain that training on the part of nurses, given the improvement of their HA, presupposes greater SC, that is, in terms of the health area, this research encourages nurses to invest in the acquisition of better HA as a way to maximize your SC.
