Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand how sustainable strategies in the wine industry are translated as they travel across social and political boundaries. Using the translation theory, I conducted a multiple case study with three Portuguese wine producers, in order to determine which key factors led them to learning about and selecting the sustainability strategies that they used. The results showed that the will and determination of the managers, the collaboration of many key players and knowledge sharing programs were important factors which led to the implementation of sustainable strategies in wine production. Furthermore, for each organization, achieving their goals for social sustainability were key components in helping them achieve environmental and economic sustainability goals.
