The nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing, namely in terms of person and its family, both living complex processes of critical disease and/or organ failure, provides care of a high science, technical and human-based complexity. With specific skills in the relationship, in the communication, welcome and information domain, and also in the technical area, the nurse mobilizes multiple knowledge and skills to respond in time and in an holistic manner. However, before the complex processes of the disease, often this becomes an object, which needs care, thereby unbundled from the being, who possesses it, favouring their dehumanisation. The humanisation needs to be always present in the relationships. It presupposes attitudes, values and behaviours, therefore it is considered that humanisation and care are inseparable. The goal of this report is to describe the activities undertaken in the clinical teaching context and in the acquisition of specific skills of an expert nurse in medical-surgical nursing, aiming more precisely to the person’s follow up in its own and in its family critical situation. The clinical teaching has developed in the operating room and in the emergency context, for this report presents nursing interventions directed to the needs of the person/family in a critical situation in these services. There are also described the nursing interventions developed in the work and intensive care context. Some literary reviews were made about the main topics inherent to the person/family in critical situation approach, namely in the operating room, in the emergency service and in the intensive care context. The metodology used to perform this report was very descriptive, analytical-reflective focused on a practical way of doing things in the different clinical teaching contexts. It is its intention to narrate in a detailed and concised way the experiences lived, the problem situations found, the performed interventions, as well as the perceived difficulties along the clinical teaching. The clinical teaching and the elaboration of this report intend to reflect the development of specialist nurse skills in the medical-surgical area, based on the autonomy development, on having initiative, on responsability, on criativity and on the critical-reflective thought. The nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing must be fully aware for multiple dimensions in terms of care, namely, when it is referred to the person/family in critical situation, the developed theme, along the clinical teaching, approach the “humanisation of the care process to the person/family in a critical situation”.
