Information Technologies have a key role in everyday life and in society. This is fundamentally due to the growing importance of obtaining knowledge in real time. This knowledge is even more valued in the business world because processed, up-to-date, accessible and reliable information is critical for control and decision-making. As for the service sector, namely at the level of University education, the information generated by the education management platforms is essential for the correct monitoring of processes and the interactions between students, teachers, contents and services technology mediated. Through an exploratory case-study conducted in the Universidade Católica do Porto, it was possible to characterize the use of the platforms, mostly the ones in charge of the e-learning and administrative services. This study, among other objectives, proposed to briefly review the potential, relevance and requirements for the Learning Analytics implementation. The main goal of this study was identifying the potential of Learning Analytics as an aggregator concept of the dispersed reports generated by two learning platforms - Blackboard and Sophia. After the collection of the data, and the use of a selected tool for analysis and aggregation of data into a single table, it became possible to cross the various sources of information and draw conclusions. The tool selected for this purpose was Microsoft Excel and all activities of understanding and data preparation were supported by CRISP-DM methodology. In this prototype, it was not possible to find a specific relationship between the variables that were studied – Occupation of platform vs. Maturity Point vs. Approval Rate. However it was possible to identify and recognize the great conceptual potential of Learning Analytics for similar and bigger studies.
