The social integration of children of immigrants has been a challenge of contemporary society in the world and Portugal is no exception. The struggle for a affirmation / social acceptance grappling with a cultural identity divided between the country of their ancestors and the birthplace is constant. Several authors have written about the many issues related to the population of Cape Verdean origin (Cardoso, 2006; Rosales, Jesus & Parra, 2009; Vala, 2003), particularly on their social integration and sense of belonging to Portugal, but there are still numerous weaknesses in this host society which still defines them as "second-generation immigrants", witch by itself, is a way of exclusion and do not consider them as part of the Portuguese nation. This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the descendants of Cape Verdean immigrants, sensing their cultural identity and if within these families are "traces" of Cape Verdean culture in order to contribute to a better understanding of their culture, routines and family rituals, analyze the risk factors that are casually found on these families, which may prevent a better social integration in order to develop general clues for a better intervention / mediation with these families. Through a quantitative exploratory study with a sample of children of Cape Verdean immigrants living in the Lisbon metropolitan area (n = 20), we used a semi-structured interview guide with 41 questions and a socio-demographic questionnaire. It should be noted that many of the questions were reported to the children of the participants. The results suggest that the descendants of immigrants are holders of new identities, which spread beyond ethnicity, operating as a link between socialization models proposed by the Portuguese society and the references to the cultural identity origins of their ancestors, reinventing and reinterpreting their identity references.
