Academic acceleration is one of the most commonly used educational measures to meet the specific needs of gifted students. This study aims to explore the perspectives of parents of students who have undergone academic acceleration, characterizing their experiences and opinions on these measures, as well as their impact on their children's academic and socio-emotional development. To achieve this, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted, focusing on the following main domains: (a) Before acceleration; (b) The process of academic acceleration; (c) Academic consequences of acceleration; (d) Socio-emotional consequences of acceleration; (e) Contextual characteristics and supports; (f) Without the acceleration; (g) What must change in the usage of academic acceleration measures. A thematic analysis was conducted using NVIVO 14 software, allowing for a comparison of the experiences, opinions, and perceptions of these parents when it comes to characteristics of the student before academic acceleration, academic and socio-emotional consequences of academic acceleration and the main difficulties and obstacles encountered during the process. The results of this study provide relevant implications for the implementation of academic acceleration measures and for the inclusion of gifted students in the education system.
