This study is aimed to characterize the life trajectories of juvenile drug use with institutional measures with emphasis in the comprehension of the family participation in the development of those trajectories and in the appraisement of the impact of the institutional measures on the young drug users. It was used a qualitative approach, of semi-inductive nature, using the biogram and content analysis. The sampling is for convenience and constituted by 24 participants, of both sex, between the ages of 15 and 21 years old, that already had contact with some kind of drug and have lived in a foster care in the region of Porto. Highlighting the homogeneity of these young’s life trajectories, mostly marked by family victimization, low success at the school, and antisocial behaviour. It was yet observed that the relation between foster care and the drug use may not have a straight connection, to the extend that it is only visible changes in the drug use, as reduction or cessation, through de involving of the young’s in psychological support processes.
