Freedom deprivation has an accentuated impact on young adults. As such, this dissertation aims to analyze this impact and find alternatives to adapt the restrictions to freedom. To deepen the study of this topic, I will reflect on the age of criminal responsibility, analyze the Criminal Regime Applicable to Young Offenders, and the interactivity between precautionary measures, punitive-educational measures, enforcement measures, sentences, and corrective measures. Posteriorly, I will focus on the impact of freedom deprivation, establishing a connection between law and psychology. Finally, following statistics data, the idea of incarceration as an ultima ratio, the Directive (EU) 2016/800, the European Prison Observatory, and the Law Proposals to amend the Criminal Regime Applicable to Young Offenders, my suggestion will be to raise the age of criminal responsibility and propose alternatives to the prison sentence.
