Abstract

Researchers in the area of violence in sport have highlighted the importance of early intervention in preventing the normalization and legitimization of violence in sports. In this sense, it is essential to analyse bullying behaviors in the sports context, with a view to developing prevention and intervention programs on this phenomenon (Vveinhardt, et al., 2019). We sought, with this research, to contribute to the knowledge of this phenomenon in the Portuguese context, through the characterization of a sample of 59 young soccer athletes regarding their bullying behaviors, experienced victimization and their relationship with sports performance and wellbeing. Regarding the results obtained, it is possible to highlight that the reported levels of bullying are lower than those of victimization experienced, although the frequency of response reported in both was low. There was also a positive association between bullying behaviors and victimization and the consideration, by the participants, that bullying affects sports performance.
