Abstract

This report describes the curricular internship developed in the hotel group Hotéis do Bom Jesus, where the theme of the impact of the UNESCO World Heritage in the hotel industry, specifically in the Hotel do Parque, will be explored. Currently, with the growing competitiveness between tourist destinations due to the development of the tourism sector, there is a growing need for them to distinguish themselves. The classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site can be an asset that managers of tourist destinations use in their marketing and promotion to attract tourists. According to some studies the site where the property is located can benefit from this designation in terms of increased number of visitors, economically (directly and indirectly), in tourism activity (e.g., increased number of guests in hotels), etc. This study will, therefore, focus on the classification of Bom Jesus as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and how it benefits the Hotel do Parque. To analyze the impact resulting from this classification, guest surveys were conducted, in order to assess the importance that the classification had for the hotel, namely, if it influenced their choice when selecting the Hotel do Parque for their stay. A comparative analysis between the number of visitors of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte and the number of guests of the Hotel do Parque was also done, in order to verify if there was any evolution of these indicators before and after the classification, despite the inevitable drop due to the pandemic.
