Abstract

The present work aims to present the utilization of big data in healthcare and demonstrate its importance as a driver to performance improvement and reduction of costs in the industry. Thus, this dissertation discusses the benefits of big data implementation and describes several cases of success and its outcomes, demonstrating that in a long run big data could improve healthcare by reducing expenses and improving the quality of health cares provided. Complementary, this dissertation indicates possible challenges that the industry faces in order to effectively leverage information. Big data in healthcare can represent a great potential, however there is still an extensive work to do.
