The refugee crisis that has recently affected Europe has raised concerns about the successful integration of asylum seekers, namely their integration into the labour market, which has given rise to an economic and political debate in the countries that have offered to accept these people (Fasani et al., 2022). A survey carried out in the United Kingdom between 2010 and 2017 showed that refugees have many difficulties in integrating into the labour market, compared to other areas, such as education (Bevelander, 2020). MEERU Approach was created with the aim of supporting refugee families hosted in Portugal, with the main objective being the social integration of the host families, thus contributing to reducing their social isolation. The main objective of this study is to understand the impact that integration into the labour market has on the psychological well-being of refugee families monitored by MEERU Apróxima. The qualitative approach allowed an analysis of 178 reports of visits by MEERU volunteers, concerning the follow-up of six families hosted in Portugal. The results obtained demonstrate the importance of integration into the labour market for the psychological well-being of refugee families in Portugal. Concerns about employment are constant among refugee families, however these people are faced with several obstacles in accessing the labour market, namely the language issue.
