With the accelerated aging of the population, according to estimates that by 2050 there will be a 22% increase in this population, which corresponds to an increase of 1.25 billion aging people, according to the UN (Population Aging, UN, 2013). It is important to invest in interventions to prevent and improve health globally. This pilot study, conducted in Brazil, proposes the application, development and evaluation of the Mindfulness intervention in emotional regulation in older people with rheumatoid arthritis, who tend to present symptoms of physical pain with comorbidities such as stress, anxiety and depression. The main objective is to improve these conditions and expand awareness: attention and perception of breathing in personal rhythm and flow associated with thoughts, emotions and sensations, without trying to judge them and staying in the present moment. The proposed design is mixed, with a predominance of qualitative analysis, based on the Mindfulness Theory applied to the clinical area, developed by Kabat-Zinn (1990) in conjunction with Gross's Emotional Regulation Theory (1990), applied to a group of three participants, aged between 55 and 85 years (M=71.33; SD=7.09). According to the evaluation of quantitative data (when comparing results in the pre and post test), in the Gross Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, qualitative evaluation of participants statements at the end of each session and qualitative evaluation of the Final Assessment Questionnaire, the results suggested that there was an improvement in the levels of more positive thoughts, awareness of mental and emotional states and stress. The strong points of the intervention (autonomy, self-care, self-love) stood out as themes with potential for development and the points for improvement were identified as quantity and depth in the sessions.
