Intervenção em enfermagem de saúde mental e psiquiátrica num centro de dia do concelho de Oeiras

Abstract

The scientific evidence has clearly shown that depression is one of the most serious problems in public health, being the most common psychiatric disturb disorder in the elderly. Inevitably, this is becoming an increasing burden on society.Believing that it is possible to contribute for the promotion of the mental health in the elderly at a community level, I, as nurse attending a specialty in mental health and psychiatric, focused the two clinical tests for this area. The main goal was to demonstrate until which point the specialized nursing interventions near the elderly with depression, may convert in health benefits.In a first stage, a diagnosis situation was elaborated in order to characterize a population of forty six users registered in the Oeiras Day Centre. This diagnosis includes the personal identification; medical background of the person; a short evaluation of the mental state using for that the Mini-Mental State Examination; an evaluation of the depressive state by the Geriatric Depression Scale and as a last point a section named “generalities”, which permit to deepen the knowledge about the person.In a second stage, nursing interventions according with Phaneuf for mental health were held. These were mainly characterized by help interviews aimed to the six users that were identified with slight depression and without cognitive defect.The study is exploratory-descriptive and a case study methodology to work with each of the six users mentioned above was followed. Initially, the data collection is based in a form methodology and in a later stage the guidelines recommended by the co-active model for the case study. Considering the goals and the type of study in cause, the strategy adopted for the processing and data analysis was qualitative and quantitative.In terms of the results, it was observed, by comparing the scores of Geriatric Depression Scale application, that all the followed users had really acquired benefits in mental health.
