This Internship Report is part of the Curricular Unit "Final Internship and Report" of the Master's Degree in Nursing with a Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations at the Institute of Health Sciences - Lisbon of the Catholic University Portuguese. It reflects the journey carried out in two internship fields with different characteristics, which took place from September 4th to December 16th, 2023, in the General Emergency Service (ED) of a hospital (200 hours) and in the Extra-hospital Emergency - Emergency Service: Immediate Life Support (SIV) (160 hours), with a total of 360 hours. As a result, I will highlight the development of Common Specialist Nurse Competencies in the domains of professional, ethical, and legal responsibility; continuous quality improvement; care management and development of learning, as well as the Specific Competencies of the Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations: caring for the person, family/caregiver who highlights complex processes of critical illness and/or organic failure; streamlining the response in emergency, exceptional, and catastrophe situations, from conception to action, and maximizing intervention in the prevention and control of infection and resistance to Antimicrobials for people in critical situations and/or organic failure. Furthermore, to obtain a Master’s degree in Nursing, a Scoping Review was carried out entitled "Skills Profile of the Intra-hospital Emergency Team Nurse." In each learning context, I prepared an Individual Training Project, where general and specific objectives to be developed and the activities to be carried out in the contexts were outlined, according to personal interest and the needs identified in each context. The internship in the context of the ED, in addition to developing skills in providing specialized nursing care to people in critical situations and their family in the context of the ED, also allowed contributes to the professional development of the nursing team, within the scope of specialist nurse interventions in the in-hospital emergency team (EEIH), carrying out a training session for the ED nursing team on nurses' interventions in the EEIH. In the SIV internship, I intended to contribute to improving the quality of nursing care provided, motivating the implementation of debriefing sessions, where I made the team aware, through a formal session, of the basic structure for guiding debriefing sessions and carried out a first debriefing session with the SIV service nursing team. Since care is currently becoming increasingly demanding, it is important to improve it through sustained practices that can contribute to the development of the profession. In this way, with the execution of the scoping review, I acquired skills in the area of research and improved existing skills, being prepared with the expectation of contributing to improving the quality of care. This entire journey had implications at a professional level, as it contributed to the development of critical-reflective thinking throughout the management and process of caring for people in critical situations, based on the provision of care in a holistic manner and based on the best available scientific evidence.
