Abstract

This report focuses on my professional experience as a social worker in the Social Center of Smiths Parish, in Braga. Over seven years of professional experience, were numerous skills acquired in the various areas that make up my work. Continuous training followed from the beginning of my professional activity, while social worker aims to demonstrate its relevance to the improvement of my professional performance. Social answers they seek to meet the needs of older people and families have suffered a growing trend when it comes to choosing the answer in which they want and / or need to integrate. Today, among several possible answers, favors the aging in their own home and family environment of the elderly. The Home Support Service (DSS), in addition to its innovative nature, comes to stand-out to be as a real alternative to institutionalization. However, the response in question has been the subject of reflections that come criticize its merely welfare and standardized intervention, and in this context that the present work, it is possible to counteract this idea with the participation of organized volunteering.
