During the Final Placement and Report subject of the Specialisation in Medical Surgical Nursing Masters’ Degree of the Lisbon Portuguese Catholic University, a report was developed. This report pretends to expose the dynamic continuous acquisition, development and consolidation of the competencies specific of a Specialist Medical Surgical Nurse for the Person in Critical Situation, which were acquired during the practical component of the Master Degree and through the completion of two professional placements (internships). However, the acquisition of these practical competencies were only possible after initially acquiring knowledge and competencies through theoretical pathway of the Master Degree. This critical analysis will fundament the acquirement of Specialist Nurse title in these contexts as these experiences were lived with the objective of developing and consolidating scientific, technique, ethical and relational competencies essential for the Specialised Medical Surgical Nursing care of the Person in Critical Situation. To support the acquisition and development of competencies at a master’s level and for the promotion of innovation and evidence-based practice in Nursing a Scoping Review regarding “Nursing Interventions to Support the Bereavement of the Family in the Critical Care Context” was completed, as this is a traversal thematic to both Clinical Placement (internship) contexts. The unexpected death of a relative confronts its family with a sudden loss and family centred, prompt, sensible and efficient implementation of nursing interventions is essential for the promotion of a healthy grieving process and for adequate family recovery.
