This study aims to analyze the editorial policy of sports news on Rádio Renascença. These sports newscasts are designated as Bola Branca, a program that has been on the air since 1980. In addition to analyzing the way in which sports reality is reported by Bola Branca journalists, this investigation aims to find out the frames in which the female gender is represented in the news coverage of the sports phenomenon on Rádio Renascença. In an area historically associated with men, it is important to find out if progress has been made in the media related to sport. The sample of this investigation consists in 815 information units, referring to a total of 29871 seconds of broadcasting related to the Bola Branca news in december 2019. In addition to the collection of these quantitative data, interviews with journalists were carried out at a later stage, in order to analyze the data obtained and the editorial justifications underlying it.The results point to the existence of a credible sports media, thanks to a confirmation rate of 78,33% in the theme “market”, the theme most subject to speculative content. Of note is the unequivocal dominance of football and, therefore, of FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting in Bola Branca news space. Finally, it is important to highlight that, as far as the female gender is concerned, the news coverage provided, in addition to being quite residual, is reduced to events in which a woman achieves something of a high value in international sports.
