Abstract

This research aims to understand how luxury jewellery brands can cope with sustainability requests. To answer the research question, we used a qualitative approach. We conducted a multiple case study on three jewellery brands, namely Tiffany & Co., Catbird and Matilde Jewellery, as these companies demonstrated commitments towards sustainability. The results show that to be more sustainable, the jewellery companies studied adopted different strategies: the implementation of alternative sourcing practices such as the use of recycled gold and diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, and sustainable packaging, strategies to improve traceability and transparency, guarantee of fair working conditions standards, as well as certification standards to prove compliance.
