: o caso do serviço de ambulatório do Centro Hospitalar Conde de Ferreira

Abstract

This research aims at improving the operation of the installed capacity of the Conde de Ferreira Hospital Centre's outpatient clinic. Thus, the focus is to expand the number of appointments of the psychiatry specialty and the number of treatments performed at the Depression Treatment Centre. A descriptive case study was chosen as a research methodology, which enabled a detailed characterization of this health unit, as well as the services to be reviewed. In the light of all the undertaken analysis, it was possible to conclude that there was an opportunity to improve the installed capacity of the outpatient services of this Hospital Centre. As such, the processes in place in the various services were scrutinised in an effort to establish wastage and inefficiencies. With regards to the developed suggestions, we believe that those improvements that should be implemented immediately correspond to the proposals that have the greatest impact on the operational activity of psychiatrists. Hence, we highlight the increase in the efficiency of the IT system and the hiring of a full-time general practitioner. This research is expected to positively contribute to the continuous optimization of hospital operations in this health unit and to optimize its capacity utilization.
