Abstract

This report was created within the scope of the Curricular Unit "Final Internship and Report" of the 17th Master's Degree Course with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for the Critically Ill Person of School of Nursing (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Through the use of a critical-reflective methodology, it was intended to explain the experiences that generated knowledge throughout the internship in the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit and in the Multipurpose Intensive Care Service. The report is structured around key points. The introduction outlined the context and objectives of the internship, highlighting the structure of analysis adopted, which follows the path of development of specialist nurse competencies through their common domains, encompassing the area of specialization of the critically ill person in each of them, in what I understood they were in. The first chapter described the initial experiences and learning opportunities in the emergency department, emphasized the importance of communication in teamwork and the application of theoretical knowledge in practical contexts. In the second chapter, the contextualization of the internship in its physical structures emerged and highlighted the specific complexity of the care provided, aiming at the importance of the multidisciplinary approach to practice supported by advanced technological resources. The third chapter, vertebral of this work, concentrated the critical-descriptive reflection of the activities developed and the theoretical foundation that sustains the action. A literature review was developed on the theme: Percutaneous coronary intervention: nursing care for the person with a radial compression hemostatic bracelet as well as a presentation that subsidizes the presentation of the theme and that was framed in the development of skills in the field of professional learning, as well as the realization of another work entitled by: Complex therapeutic management in an intensive care unit: the practice specialized in the prevention of error and promotion of safety, framed in a process of developing skills in the field of continuous quality improvement. The conclusion highlights the importance of integrating evidence-based practice into specialized care. The process of acquiring skills was a constant challenge, in the search for knowledge and personal improvement.
