Abstract

This dissertation begins with the indispensability of strategy for the successful performance of organisations today, considering that we live in an increasingly "volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous” world. Martin and Lafley (2013) introduced the "Playing To Win" method, valued for its simplicity and efficiency, with the intention of offering a solid framework for strategy formulation so that companies can turn their vision into strategic choices. Formulating an effective strategy involves, not only analysing an organisation's internal environment and surroundings, but also ensuring that the company is flexible and prepared to adjust its strategy in order to respond quickly to the changes in the market. The successful implementation of a business strategy requires organisational planning and commitment at all levels, and the alignment of the entire organisation with the defined mission and vision is essential. This paper addresses the central question of the usefulness of implementing the "Playing to Win" methodology at Amorim Top Series, a company that is part of the Corticeira Amorim Group, a world leader in the cork stopper production sector. In order to answer this question, a brief overview and explanation of the "Playing to Win" method, developed by Roger L. Martin and A.G. Lafley, will be given, followed by an overview and exploration of Amorim Top Series and its business strategy, based on interviews conducted. The results obtained make it possible to answer the question posed within the scope of this study, showing that it is feasible to apply the methodology to ATS, and that it can in fact be an asset for improving the company's competitiveness in the market. In addition, these results contribute to a broader understanding of the application of the methodology in specific industrial contexts.
