Abstract

There are several systemic disorders that may predispose to oral infection, compromising oral health.Thus, it becomes essential careful diagnosis and treatment of these pathologies.Diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disease with high prevalence, morbidity and mortality, which has, among others, oral and ocular lesions.Despite the oral manifestations of diabetes are several, the most important oral complication is periodontal disease.Ocular manifestations are due to microvascular complications of microangiopathy in blood vessels, including diabetic retinopathy. It systematizes the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of this complication, which can cause blindness of individuals with both type 1 diabetes and type 2.It’s importante to systematize also, the relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease and the ocular and oral lesions of diabetic microangiopathy as a complication of diabetes mellitus.
