This work focuses on the importance of recovering the mystagogical dimension in transmitting faith in the context of secularization experienced in our modern society, specifically starting from the model of mystagogical catechesis practiced mainly in the 4th century. To this end, after a brief study of the sacraments of Christian Initiation and the catechetical itinerary that prepares them – the first chapter, Encountering the Mystery –, we focus particularly on the catechumenal and mystagogical dimensions that involved the reception of these sacraments around the 4th century – second chapter, Mystagogy in the 4th century: its golden times – to later rehearse a possible “recovery of the method”, in its essential aspects, adapting it to the specific characteristics of the secularized society in which we live – third chapter – Mystagogy and Evangelization in contemporary times.
