Student thesis: Master's Thesis

The present dissertation entitled “Construction of a Multimodal Narrative”, was carriedout within the scope of the End of Course Project to obtain a Master's degree in Digital Communication. The purpose of this project was to conceptualize and develop an application of an interactive story for children to spread the culture of Cape Verde. To achieve the objective, a theoretical review was carried out relatively to the concept and characteristics of interactive story applications, and specifically, technological development, applications of interactive stories and digital games in Cape Verde were addressed. The motivation behind this project was the proposal for the development of an interactive story application within the scope of the Mobeybou project. This proposal was born from the need to fill a gap, due to the fact that there are no multimedia applications aimed at young children that make possible to know Cape Verdean culture. With that in mind, this work proposes to continue the Mobeybou project and developthe Mobeybou app in Cape Verde, creating multicultural digital apps, where children aged between 4 and 8 can also narrate their own stories, promoting cognitive and social skills within a multicultural framework. The app uses Augmented Reality (AR) tovisualize, manipulate and explore cultural concepts, 360º scenes, sounds, 2 Danimations, among other resources, through multimodal interaction. The methodology used was of a qualitative nature, initially the bibliographic research and a semistructured interview complemented the initial survey. The application development was guided by user-centered design, finally, participant observation and interview techniques were used, through an exploratory study on the use of the application.
