Abstract
The growing awareness of the environmental and social impacts caused by the textile sector has led to increased demand for more sustainable production and consumption models. In this context, sustainable fashion emerges as an ethical and environmentally responsible alternative to fast fashion. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – this study aims to understand how Portuguese sustainable fashion companies contribute to this global objective. Using a qualitative methodology based on two semi-structured interviews with small-scale companies (Rye Line and Zouri), the research explores their sustainability practices, strategies, and the challenges they face. The findings reveal that both companies follow slow fashion principles, though with distinct approaches. They prioritize product longevity, use sustainable materials, and implement measures to reduce waste. This study reinforces the role of small businesses in advancing sustainable practices, despite existing challenges and limitations.| Date of Award | 29 Oct 2025 |
