This project investigates the influence of photographic albums on the practice of artistic photography, focusing on their origin and common use as objects in the late 20th century, as well as the reasons for their decline. The research examines the importance of the materiality of the photographic album and the relationship between vernacular photography and Fine-Art photography. The theoretical approach is supported by the texts Interpreting Vernacular Photography: Finding ‘Me’ – A Case Study by Catherine Whalen; Vernacular Photography by Geoffrey Batchen; and Photography: A Middle-brow Art by Pierre Bourdieu.
