Abstract

This dissertation has the objective of exposing the relation between the concept of po- etry of Martin Heidegger’s philosophy (post turn) and themes found in Being and Time (1927) and to explore the applicability of these themes on the contemporary Portuguese language po etry. This relation centers mainly (but not exclusively) in themes found in Being and Time such as Dasein, care, language and existencials and the concept of aletheia (truth) found in Heidegger’s works of post turn. Thus, this dissertation exposes the dialogue between Being and Time and the aesthetic tradition that has had a misunderstanding of poetry and the poet as far as its meaning, approach and function is concerned. We defend that poetry is an event of unconcealment whose function is to lead a community to the truth of Being, which is the unconcealment of the possibilities of entities and Dasein. Our conclusion is in favor of Heidegger’s approach to poetry as salvation and the poet as a savior of a historical (contemporary) desolated era. In order to accomplish our goal, this study focuses on Being and Time and texts of late Heidegger’s philosophy to think of the nature and function of poetry; To establish a possible dialogue with Portuguese language poets such as Adília Lopes, Eugénio de Andrade, Hélia Correia e Manoel de Barros.
