Abstract

Lean is a methodology of continuous improvement, which has been increasingly implemented in the industrial world, in order to correspond the needs to use resources to a higher extent. Through the use of Lean tools, the present project had as objective standardise the tasks regarding to finishing of products in the bottling centre of the Aveleda company, reducing, therefore, existent wastes, such as unnecessary movement by the operators. Initially, the various activities of finishes were identified and the work sequence was characterized, as well as the time spent in each step of the process. In a later stage, the balancing of each activities was carried out, in order to provide the same workload for the different operators and thereby, increase labour productivity. As a result of this process, improvements were proposed and a projection of the expected gains with the application of the same was made. In parallel, each of the activities of finishes were prioritized with the Pareto rule, new Layouts transversal to the work areas were outlined, a Standards Work procedure was set up and a training plan was proposed. The application of improvement proposals allowed a reduction of wastes initially detected and, consequently, let to an increase in labour productivity.
