O acompanhamento e supervisão da prática letiva visto pela avaliação externa das escolas

This work frames within the field of Supervision and External Evaluation. The central objective of this study aims to identify which practices of supervision existing in schools are found in the External Evaluation of Schools reports and which suggestions for improvement let the evaluators to schools. The External Evaluation of Schools, carried out by teams of General Inspection of Education, is established as a regulator and a promoter of the educational quality. Any activity that involves moments of teaching and learning should be inherent in a process of supervision, being precisely the interconnection between the two domains the object of our research work. We develop the theoretical conceptualization, using reference authors in this field and who supported our built argument that maintains the empirical study. With regard to the empirical study, the corpus of analysis consists of the reports of 35 schools in the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, inspected during the New Cycle of Assessment (2011-2012). We adopted the methodology of interpretive and qualitative approach to research through documentary analysis. After the analysis and interpretation of data, this research work has allowed us to conclude that practices of supervision in schools are still insufficient, visible in the ratings given to this factor, and expressed in the reports of the General Inspection of Education in the External Evaluation of Schools. We can only talk about collaborative practices. In what concerns the teaching practices and pedagogical supervision, there is still a long way to go. It is considered that the success and optimization of all this supervison/evaluation process depends decisively on how the leaders and the educational community position themselves in relation to its usefulness and educational validity. In this sense it is essential to assure the implementation of supervision devices as well as to promote the reflection on its importance.
