Abstract

This essay has as theme “The associativism and civic participation on young people across rural environment”. By approaching this theme we intended to reach the following goal: “analyze the impact of associativism in the civic participation of young people on rural areas”. To reach this and other specific goals, we generate the overall assumption: “the associativism is one of the major factors with influence on civic participation for young people in rural environment. In order to get results from this test, five specific conjectures were created: the young people, who make part of associations, have positive characteristics, such as: solidarity, confidence and tolerance towards other people; there are positive relationships concerning the respect towards each other, which means that there are no individual superiority among these young people; the young who belongs to associations have civic commitment, which take them to fulfil their duties, like, vote, confidence in a political system and in their country, because they have a significant attitude towards the social-capital; the motives that take young people to the associativism are related to the fact of recognizing that the expectations and the expected opportunities are reached; the associativism provides satisfaction and personal stabilization to the young people. In order to perform this investigation, we studied six associations, three from São João da Pesqueira County and other three from Tarouca, more specifically two folklore associations, two philharmonic bands and two volunteered fire fighters associations. The research of this theme was performed through surveys of questionnaires, and the associated were in ages between 18 and 25 years old. The study allows to conclude that the associativism has some impact in young’s life, although the impact on political participation was not verified. Nevertheless, on a personal aspect and involving society, positive impacts are verified, namely on the concern with the next and with the society, and also the significant importance that the association has on personal satisfaction and happiness on young’s associated life.
