Abstract

Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder that interferes considerably with the social interaction. Considering the self a construct of high importance for the formation of personality that interferes with relationships with others, it is imperative to promote strategies that enable the acquisition of a more positive self-concept. This study aims to identify the characteristics of self-concept of three young people aged between 10 and 12 years old with Asperger Syndrome and figure out how their condition has influenced their self-image. We have resorted to the application of Self-Concept scale Piers - Harris (PHCSCS - Piers Harris Children's Self Concept Scale), the latest version reduced to 60 items and also to an interview to get the desired data. The results show us that these students recognize they have some limitations due to their pathology, namely the inability to establish friendships and relationships with other people. The participation in activities related to motor seems, somehow, to be also compromised.
